I just had a minor surgery with local anesthetic and was given a prescription that contained codeine. I’m not big fan of prescription drugs so I thought I’d try something different…
Self hypnosis.
I recorded a hypnosis session and listened to it whenever I felt a bit of pain coming on…
The surgery was on my right shoulder so I imagined the area where I had surgery was a ball of healing light that I held in my left hand and imagined there was a mist of pain-relieving rose gold dust swirling around it.
When I really imagined that swirling ball of healing light in my left hand, I found that it helped disassociate from the pain in my right shoulder.
I didn’t have to take any pain medication 🙂
But when it comes to pain, you don’t want it to completely go away, because a little bit of pain or pressure in that area reminds me that I need to take it easy while it heals.
One of the challenges with self-hypnosis is that it’s difficult to be in both the conscious mind to deliver the hypnosis and the subconscious mind to receive the hypnosis. Derrrp…
It might work when it’s an acute problem but when it’s persistent and/or chronic self-hypnosis is probably not be enough to get to the root cause.
The problem self-hypnosis is is that the conscious critical mind is like a bouncer at the door of the VIP area and can prevent you from connecting with your subconscious mind and accessing a resourceful state of deep hypnosis.
Hypnosis works best when the hypnotist and the person receiving hypnosis are two different people, especially If the problem is persistent or chronic and you suspect there might be something going on below the surface of what is seen and you want therapeutic hypnosis to uncover insights.
Here are some reasons to try hypnosis:
Curiosity
To get therapeutic hypnosis that solves an important issue, you have to be curious enough to sneak in through the side door, without the bouncer knowing. Once you’ve made it to the VIP area, you finally get it – you get to experience insights into unlimited possibilities for yourself and all the VIP resources to get you there.
Alternative to medication
You can explore non-pharmacological ways to manage pain, especially if it is a symptom or part of a condition where the pain is just the tip of the iceberg of something bigger going on.
Stress relief and relaxation
Stress and anxiety might just be a symptom what’s really going on and hypnosis can give you insights into the root cause. In this way hypnosis can address specific issues or challenges, like anxiety, stress, phobia, insomnia, and chronic pain.
Meditation is about focus but the whole thing about meditation is that you lose your focus. Meditation really is about noticing when you’ve lost your focus and bringing back your focus over and over.
I find with hypnosis, as soon as you connect even slightly with the subconscious mind it’s easier to focus. There’s no hypnosis without focus, the subconscious minds helps you find your focus to help you experience a state of deep relaxation. While you’re there you might even find insights that help you resolve the root cause of your anxiety.
Hypnosis can help explore subconscious issues where you think there is something psychosomatic going on, like emotional responses that don’t seem to match up with what’s happening in the present moment, experiences from the past, memories that have a disturbing emotional charge, or unresolved issues that you think might be affecting certain areas of your life or your ability to live the life you want.
Regression
I will never make anyone go back to their childhood and re-experience painful memories. It sounds scary, doesn’t it?
In my hypnosis sessions, we connect with the client’s subconscious and always let it lead the way.
Sometimes the subconscious does lead the client back to the past and find the root cause of their problem. They’re able to discover insights and resolve their problems in that state of regression. I love when this happens. It’s amazing.
Performance enhancement
Success, performance, and achievement is all about overcoming mental barriers and having new resources that enable you to make different choices.
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right”
Henry Ford
Personal growth and self-improvement
My clients come in with a problem and by the end of the session their problem isn’t a problem anymore because they have new insights. They’ve connected with new resources that give them choice to break or create habits which helps them get their groove – motivation and confidence – all the things that were already there in their subconscious mind just waiting to be discovered.
Insight and introspection
Hypnosis gives my clients access to new perspectives so they can see things at a new level of consciousness and gain insights into their behaviours, habits and emotions and make better choices.
Problems always exist in problem-solutions sets in the subconscious mind. One problem has many solutions and hypnosis allows them to try them on and learn from the solutions to come up with their own unique plan for the future.
All the solutions to your issues exist in your subconscious mind.
