Why It’s So Challenging to Stop or Start a Habit

Think about how habits feel.

They feel very effortless and easy, don’t they?

They’re automatic.

They run themselves, like when you tie your shoes, you don’t even have to think about it anymore. You just have a thought or an intention and it just happens.

It’s effortless. It’s easy.

And if you think of a bad habit that maybe you’ve been struggling with, unfortunately, it’s pretty much the same way, isn’t it?

There’s something that triggers you, like when you have a problem. Let’s say, you have a habit of snacking.

It’s that time of the evening, and it just kind of happens.

It’s effortless and it’s way too easy.

And the next thing you know that bag of chips, cookies, candy is gone.

And what’s actually happening are these behaviors are subconscious and when something goes subconscious, those behaviors become automatic.

They become effortless and easy.

They just happen.

Things just flow – whether the habit is positive or negative.

So it’s very hard to change something that’s operating at the subconscious level.

It’s extremely difficult to change habits with your conscious mind with the tools that it has of motivation and willpower.

It feels almost impossible…

Because the subconscious mind is powerful. When a behavior us down at that level, it takes a long time to change a habit with just willpower motivation because the subconscious mind is so much stronger than willpower.

Hundreds of times more powerful.

If you’re trying to get rid of a habit or start a new one, you have to work with it at the level of the subconscious.

If you’re trying to get rid of a habit, and you feel that your willpower an motivation just aren’t cutting it, try working on it at the subconscious level.

Willpower and motivation are just no match for what’s taken place at the subconscious automatic level.

And in the same way, If you’re starting from nothing and you want to create a good habit, you wanna reach a goal, or you want to get some traction on a passion project…

You can try to break out of your fears, try to get more confidence, change your mindset about dating, change the way you feel about women but there’ll be that underlying feeling that will trip you up and cause you to stay stuck.

Even with the best intentions.
