Why You’re Not Getting the Results You Want from Traditional Talk Therapy – And Why It’s Not Your Fault
If you feel like you’re going around in circles from talk therapy, it’s easy to think you’re doing something wrong. Maybe you’ve heard:
- You’re not clear on your goals
- You’re not doing the homework outside sessions
- You’re not really ready to do the work
F#ck that.
You’re in pain.
You’re asking for help.
What else are you supposed to do?
Let’s look at some of the reasons therapy might not be working for you—and what to do to get the results you’re searching for.
Talking about trauma can make things worse
When you’ve experienced trauma, you continue having intrusive thoughts and intense feelings in your body as if you were re-experiencing the trauma in the here and now.
Talking about it can bring back panic, shame, and intense physical feelings. You re-live the intensity without actually feeling better. That’s called an iatrogenic effect—it means the treatment that is trying to fix it, unintentionally makes the original problem worse.
Not cool.
I caught my ex cheating
When I found out my ex was cheating, I was angry. I felt like I had wasted away years of my life.
I was so upset, I tried talk therapy three times a week.
I talked about the shame.
The wasted time.
The wasted pretty.
The betrayal.
But I didn’t feel better. In fact, maybe a little worse remembering all the shitty things I was trying to forget.
All the intense, unresolved emotions had me going back to therapy and talking kept looping though the same emotional mess.
I talked to my therapist, the emergency therapist, my friends, family, anyone who would listen. I thought I just needed to get it all out.
But talking about trauma doesn’t bring relief.
It just brings you back to the pain—over and over.
Logic can’t fix emotions.
Your Relationship With Your Therapist
Did you know that the relationship you have with your therapist really makes a difference?. In fact, it’s the biggest factor in healing from trauma. If you don’t feel truly seen, safe, or connected, it’s hard to move forward.
You’re not being “difficult” if you don’t click with someone.
Try someone else until you find the right one.
You’re Done Talking About Your Problems
You’ve talked about your issues in therapy over and over. You never really get to the solutions, then before you know it, the session is over.
Traditional therapists are only there to listen and validate. It’s not their job to find solutions.
No one is going to have the real solutions for you anyways.
If anyone is going to have them, it’s gonna be you because you know you and what you’ve been through the best.
What you need is someone who can can help you connect to that part of you that holds all the answers. Your Superconscious. It remembers it all, even the things that you forgot because they were too painful.
You just have to connect with your Superconscious and let it guide you out of the place you’re stuck at.
You don’t have to talk about it because your Superconscious know everything you’ve been through. All the worst moments. All the ways to get unstuck.
Who said you have to remember to recover?
No one.
Ever.
Superconscious not conscious, verbal pathways to healing
Hypnotherapy doesn’t require talking about what happened. It uses unconscious pathways and superconscious highways to resolve trauma that is stuck AF and help the nervous system let it go. It’s gentle. It’s targeted and accelerated by the Superconscious highway to healing.
What you can do differently
Acknowledge that therapy that isn’t working doesn’t mean you can’t fix the problem. Maybe it’s more like using a spoon to try to dig yourself out of a hole.
Many of my clients have been in talk therapy for
Look for therapies like Accelerated Hypnotherapy and OEI therapy that don’t require verbal processing
Track the small shifts—less reactivity, more space in your body, even better sleep that can make big differences.
Get curious about what’s going on under the surface, the parts that can’t be accessed through words.
Let’s connect.
Small changes in the subconscious lead to significant shifts at the conscious level.
