Neuroscience of Traumatic Memory
Traumatic memories aren’t processed like normal memories. Instead of being stored in the past tense, they stay vivid and raw in the here and now. Key brain areas like the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex struggle to regulate these memories, leaving trauma survivors feeling triggered, overwhelmed, or emotionally frozen.
